Happy Friday! Today, I am linking up with Erika, Narci, and Andrea to share my favorites, but I am changing it up a little. Last week, I shared that we moved from Southern California to Illinois so today I thought I would share my favorite things about living in Southern California.
Life in Southern California is very different from anywhere else I have ever lived, and I found a lot that I disliked about it, but there were also some pretty cool things about living there too. So here we go...
There is a little bit of everything-the beach, the mountains, theme parks, the desert, and big cities just to name a few. We lived about 20-30 minutes from the mountains, 35 minutes from Disneyland, and 45 minutes from the beach so we had lots of options! We were also about half way between Los Angeles and San Diego so we spent time making day trips to both of those areas too. It was always nice having lots of options and lots of variety.
Disneyland. So we have lived about 35 minutes from Disneyland for years and didn't start going until this year and we LOVED it! The best part is the Annual Passes offered to Southern California residents so we were able to go a lot! Some of our best memories have been at Disneyland, and I am so thankful we had the opportunity to spend time there this last year.
The Beaches. Who doesn't love the beach?! And living 45 minutes away wasn't all that bad. We would have to get up and leave pretty early to avoid beach traffic but that's ok because we always had a great time. We checked out quite a few beaches while we lived in Southern CA and just discovered our favorite one this last summer- San Clemente Beach. It is beautiful and was never crowded when we visited. Plus, the little town is super cute!
Lucille's BBQ. We LOVE our BBQ, and Lucille's is the best!...especially for a chain restaurant. The portions are large, the food is amazing, and the complimentary biscuits are oh so good. This is one place we always took out of town guests and one place we really miss.
Sandals Church. We lived just a few miles down the street from Sandals Church, and I resisted going there for awhile because I thought it was a mega church. Now it is big, but they have quite a few campuses and it really doesn't feel all that big. And then really it didn't matter because we loved everything about it! We appreciated the Bible based teaching and the honesty and realness of everyone. We still listen to sermons online occasionally (they live broadcast their service every Sunday too). Sandals Church also has a great podcast called the Debrief every Tuesday.
Sandals Church is all about being real with ourselves, God, and others....and oh the great changes we have seen in ourselves from being real. Sandals Chuch has been a huge blessing to us!
San Diego. We loved exploring San Diego and being only an hour (ish) away made it so easy to visit. Some of our favorites were exploring Coronado Island and spending time in La Jolla! It is a really fun city with lots to do.
Well that's it for Southern California! Have you been or lived there?! What are some of your favorites??! Have a great weekend :)
